Bulate Village - Water System
The construction of a clean water system for the village of Bulate in Derashe district, Ethiopia. Over 850 people will benefit from the clean water system. The system will include a spring cap, a 3 km pipeline, 1 reservoir, 3 water points for household use, 3 animal troughs, 3 wash basins. Work in the village began in the first half of 2008. Vancouver Eastside - Winter Assistance
On any single day there are 400 to 600 people who come through the doors of First United. Approximately 100 people sleeping on the floor (sheltered from the rain and cold). We need to fund daily coffee/soup and sandwiches, showers and emergency clothing. There are approximately 2000 homeless in Vancouver and with winter coming, looking for blankets and warm clothing. Our goal is to raise $10,000.
Human Trafficking - Safe Shelter
Vancouver is becoming known as an emerging sex trade destination for travelers seeking an eclectic sex experience. Demand for the industry motivates traffickers to supply sex slaves lured from Asia, Eastern Europe, Northern regions of Canada and even local communities. In British Columbia, human trafficking in sex consists mainly in prostitution—specifically prostitutes living in debt and drug bondages to pimps and gangs—and undoubtedly through sex brothels operated by major organized crime. Once these women and children are rescued, we need shelter for them with a place to sleep. $15,000 will support one person for an entire year. Please help.
